Dispatches from the Forgotten Middle

Updated: Nov 24, 2024

I'm glad this election is over because I'm tired.

I'm tired of the noise.

I'm tired of hollow promises from leaders who seem more interested in power than progress.

I'm tired of being told I have to pick a side.

Yet, here we are. The noise continues, with the Dems licking their wounds, trying to figure out what went wrong, and team Trump charging ahead with their plan to reshape our democracy.

But this isn't a playground game of Red Rover, where the only way to win is to divide and conquer. So why do I have to pick a side? Why should I have to choose between the competent tone-deafness of team blue and the compelling fantasy of team red? Between academic lectures and pep rallies?

Somewhere between these extremes, we’ve lost something vital: the ability to discuss real solutions in ways that resonate with real people.

We don’t want ideology—we want ideas that work. Ideas that deliver stable jobs, affordable housing, and healthcare that doesn’t bankrupt families.

Healthy communities, quality education, and opportunities for everyone who’s willing to put in the effort—these aren’t red or blue issues; they’re American ones.

Both sides have left those of us in the middle feeling abandoned—too practical to buy into hardline MAGA loyalism and too grounded to lose ourselves in the echo chambers of performative activism.

What we’re looking for—what I think a lot of us are hungry for—is leadership that speaks to both our hearts and our heads. Leaders who understand that compromise isn’t a betrayal, that common sense isn’t a weakness, and that style and substance shouldn’t be mutually exclusive.

This is about finding that middle ground where good ideas matter more than party loyalty, where solutions take precedence over ideology. It’s about holding leaders accountable, demanding real results, and celebrating ideas that can make a real difference—no matter where they come from.

If you’re tired of the noise, the endless bickering, and the hollow promises, you’re in the right place. Let’s step off the well-worn paths of tribal politics and take the road less traveled. Let’s figure out what works, what doesn’t, and what we can do to fix it.

Welcome to The Forgotten Middle.
